I should stop reading the newspapers, I really should. Today I read this headline 'Conservative party support soars with new budget' and I cringed.
I know, you're probably saying "You should be happy with the budget! Green support! Help with family $$$! bla bla bla!! " Yeah ok, that's great and all, I'm happy that these things are being brought up, even though the work towards environmental changes are minimal at best and WAY too late coming. It's great I will have extra money in my pocket as a single income family dad and there are incentives to buy fuel efficient vehicles etc.
What really grinds my gears is the fact that the Conservative party is ONLY doing this because it's a minority gov't and they want to stay in power. If they didn't put forth this budget the other parties would have voted 'no confidence' and the present gov't would fall. NOW though if the Conservative party gets in with a majority of votes, they will go back to the same old status quo, ignoring the environment and focusing on big business. The same STINKIN' road that got us into the situation we're in.
Yet again, another reason why humankind is screwed in the long term.
Posted by Oorgo at March 23, 2007 02:05 PM Permalink - Category: Politiks | TrackBackActually the real reason humankind is screwed is because they're lazy, hypocritical mother-fuckers.
Sure the number 1 political issue in Canada is the environment, but you ask people to stop driving their cars, live closer to where they work, buy local food, opt out of air travel and they think you are nutters.
The fact is, people want the issues with the environment solved but only if it doesn't mean any sacrifice on their part. If you gave them the choice between their kids having a place to live that isn't fucked and giving up their holiday to mexico, they'd take the holiday. After all "the government must have a way of fixing this all for me without me doing anything"... therefore I'll keep fucking the environment and bitch and complain when nothing improves. Can you imagine what would happen if the gov't limited car usage to 100 km a month per person... riots... gimme' environmental salvation... but don't make me do anything... 'cause I'm lazy, selfish, stupid and hey it's the gov't's and industry's problem.
At least the people driving hummer's are honest, they don't give a fuck and aren't afraid to say so.
Posted by: Joe at March 28, 2007 04:38 AMHere here! We've definitely trained ourselves to be mindless entertainment/power/sloth/money addicted fools.
I really don't think we can turn this one around. For the most part since it means giving up our conveniences, what we see as freedom (driving a powerful car/truck/suv) and the general consumerism of this materialistic society. HOW many fucking decades did it take the general population to see smoking as bad for your health? And STILL there are idiots who try to tell me it's their right to pollute my lungs.
We call it "standard of living", but what it really means is "standard of using". We are users, planet eaters, and sooner or later we WILL kill ourselves either quickly or painfully slow.
Posted by: Oorgo at March 28, 2007 12:57 PMFunny though, I re-read your comment and it almost seems you're rationalizing something. Are you a hummer driver?
Posted by: Oorgo at March 28, 2007 01:01 PMIn the last comment you ask:
Are you a hummer driver?
then google ad beneath that asks:
Are you gay?
Take the Quiz.
I dunno, I found it really funny and forgot all about what I was going to comment about.

My google ad says '100% Australian Ugg Boots' and 'Sheep Skin' What the heck is an Ugg?
