You better start swimmin'

This is a scary and exciting time to be living in, many choices made now will affect our children, their children, and the ability for us to maintain our residence here on this world and perhaps our existence as a race.

After watching this series of videos regarding the world economy called Crash Course by Chris Martenson I think this timely and important song must be read word for word.

Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone.
If your time to you
Is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon
For the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who
That it's namin'.
For the loser now
Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There's a battle outside
And it is ragin'.
It'll soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is
Rapidly agin'.
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'.

The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is
Rapidly fadin'.
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin'.

The Times They Are A-Changin

Innovations in podcasting

Ted over at Rocket Jones has stumbled across a great new innovation: Podcast for the Hearing Impaired. I was amazed at the clarity of the session.

Shiny metal hordes

Now this is sweet: New futuristic armor that is

5 times stronger than steel and at least double the strength of any current impact-resistant material.... a sample of the ApNano material that withstood shock pressures of up to 250 tons per square cm by a steel projectile moving at 1.5km/s

I'm just imagining this shining horde of people armed to the nuts, walking through the fields of corpses deflecting all attacks. It's like Robocop, Judge Dredd and Terminator are all mixed up and stomping around in my brain.

I think I need to go and drink a fistful at the office Christmas party now. Wish me luck

Chemistry will save our asses

Unfortunately I almost failed Chem 30 so... I'm no help at all.

These guys over at Air Products though.... they've designed a pretty sweet Power and Hydrogen Station

The HES ... is being designed to co-produce electricity and hydrogen for vehicle fueling and electrical power from a single system capable of using a variety of gaseous feedstocks such as natural gas, propane and anaerobic digester gas from municipal and industrial wastewater treatment facilities.

Future auto mechanic stereotypes will have to shift from grease monkey to the thick-rimmed lab coat wearing stereotype. You'll have to know more about resistance, amperage, ohms and all that stuff, than compression, timing, oil pressure etc. It's a whole new world baby. Shank, you're gonna hate it man.
